17cm Whip Antenna
17cm Whip Antenna
NOTE: This antenna is tuned for 915MHz (US/AU). Please be sure to check the frequency used in your country to confirm 915MHz is what you need.
The 17cm whip antenna by GIZONT is a great upgrade for your LoRa or Meshtastic device. Not only is it more durable due to it's flexibility and the sturdy base design, but the antenna is significantly more efficient than the standard antenna. This metric is known as SWR, or Standing Wave Ratio, which is a measure used in the context of antennas to indicate how efficiently the antenna is transmitting or receiving radio frequency energy from a transmitter or to a receiver.
The SWR for this antenna is around ~1.3. Compared to an SWR of ~3.5 for the stock antenna, the GIZONT whip antenna is significantly more efficient. The antenna also has a SMA male connection.
- SWR is defined as the ratio of the maximum radio frequency voltage (or current) in the antenna feed line to the minimum voltage (or current). It indicates how well the antenna impedance matches the transmission line impedance.
- Ideal SWR: An SWR 1.0 indicates a perfect match between the antenna and the transmission line. This means all the power from the transmitter is being radiated by the antenna, with no power being reflected back down the transmission line.
- Practical Considerations: In reality, SWR is rarely 1.0 due to various factors such as impedance mismatches, antenna design, feedline length, and surrounding objects. Higher SWR values (2.0 or 3.0) indicate poorer efficiency, with more power being reflected back towards the transmitter instead of being radiated.
